On a personal level Dr. Malik the founder of BICOS has always been deeply implicated in international development through medical and surgical education and in projects for eradication of poverty in different parts of the world. He is of Pakistani origin but was born and educated in Kenya, including the first two years of his medical training at the University of Nairobi. He later transferred to the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain where he continued to participate in social and medical development projects in Kenya and Peru.

Currently he works professionally through three non-governmental charity organizations - the Neurosurgery Education Development (NED) foundation of Spain, College of Surgeons of East Central and South Africa (COSECSA) and Operation Walk of United States. He has undertaken joint replacement and trauma surgical work camps on multiple occasions in Vietnam, Kenya, Tanzania (Arusha twice) and Zanzibar. He has also worked and supports projects on local development such as construction of water wells (Makindu, Kenya), support for orphans (Upendo, Thika y Muthurwa, Nairobi, Kenya) and scholarships for poor students (Masomo Foundation, Nairobi) through local trusts and foundations in Kenya.

His fluency in multiple languages is of great assistance in being able to communicate with local staff and patients, as well as understand the many nuances of local cultures. After nearly 15 years of professional activity he has ample surgical and academic experience to adequately support training in the field of orthopedics.
